Florida-Based Airline Ends All Flights After Bankruptcy Filing
Silver Airways ceases operations: On June 11, 2025, the Fort Lauderdale-based airline abruptly shut down, halting all flights and stranding passengers.
Instagram Post Was the First Official Notice
The airline made the shocking announcement via Instagram, stating:
“We regret to inform you that we are ceasing operations as of today, June 11, 2025… Please do not go to the airport.”
The post also told passengers to seek refunds through their credit card companies or travel agencies, effectively cutting off all customer service communications.
Routes Affected Include Key West, Tampa, and the Caribbean
Silver Airways had served a modest but vital list of routes, connecting:
- Tampa
- Key West
- Tallahassee
- Pensacola
- The Bahamas and Caribbean islands
Many passengers — including those bound for Key West — learned of the cancellations only after arriving at the airport.
A Sudden End Following a December 2024 Bankruptcy
In December 2024, Silver Airways announced a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, claiming it was a “strategic step” to rebuild for a “stronger future.”
But that optimism has now faded.
The company’s statement revealed that an attempted sale of assets fell through after the purchasing holding company opted not to continue Silver’s operations in Florida, the Bahamas, or the Caribbean.
Frustrated Passengers Scramble for Alternatives
Travelers who had booked months in advance were left stranded or forced to find last-minute travel alternatives — many at significantly higher prices.
One traveler, Melissa Helfer, told ABC Action News:
“We had to scramble to figure out how we’re getting there… We booked in March.”
Her group eventually decided to drive.
13 Years of Service Ends with Unanswered Questions
Silver Airways had celebrated its 13th anniversary just six months earlier. At the time, it praised its history of “connecting communities” and flying with “no middle seat” comfort.
But by June 2025, that journey came to a halt — with no direct customer support, no transition plan, and no confirmed buyer.
PEOPLE reached out to the airline for comment but has not received a response.
