Nissan Recalls Over 480,000 Vehicles Due to Risk of Engine Failure
Nissan recall 2025: Over 480,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada face engine failure risk due to manufacturing defects, NHTSA says.
Which Models Are Affected?
The recall includes 443,899 vehicles in the U.S. and 37,837 in Canada, covering certain models equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L Variable Compression Turbo (VC-Turbo) engines:
- 2019–2020 Nissan Altima
- 2019–2022 Infiniti QX50
- 2021–2024 Nissan Rogue
- 2022 Infiniti QX55
What’s the matter?
Nissan states that engine manufacturing faults can cause bearing issues, which may lead the engine to lose power during operation. Because this issue may develop gradually, drivers may notice warning signs such as:
- Unusual noises emanating from the engine
- Engine performance in rough form
- Notifications or warning indicators on the dashboard
What Will Dealers Do?
Dealers will inspect the engine oil pan for metal debris:
- If debris is found: The engine may be repaired or replaced free of charge.
- If no debris is found:
- 3-cylinder 1.5L engines will receive a new oil pan gasket, fresh engine oil, and ECM reprogramming.
- 4-cylinder 2.0L engines will have the engine oil replaced.
- 3-cylinder 1.5L engines will receive a new oil pan gasket, fresh engine oil, and ECM reprogramming.
What Should Owners Do?
Nissan will begin sending owner notification letters by August 25, 2025.
