Major Prison Riot Leads to Arrests
Prosecutors in Nevada have charged 20 individuals in connection with a deadly brawl at Ely State Prison that resulted in the deaths of three inmates in July 2024. In addition to injuring several prisoners, the Nevada jail fight resulted in a lockdown at the maximum-security facility.
First-degree murder and attempted murder with a dangerous weapon, reportedly connected to gang activities, are among the allegations, according to authorities.
How the Fatal Fight Started
The White Pine County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) both claim that the prison riot started early on July 30, 2024. Officers responded to reports of a large-scale fight, which left three inmates dead from “multiple sharp force injuries.”
The incident prompted an immediate lockdown, lasting two days, while authorities conducted an investigation.
Victims and Gang Affiliations
The three inmates killed in the Nevada prison violence were identified as:
- Connor Brown (22): Serving 7-20 years for armed robbery
- Anthony Williams (41): Serving life without parole for murder
- Zackaria Luz (43): Serving 7-18 years for racketeering
Officials confirmed that Williams and Luz were members of the Aryan Warriors, a white supremacist prison gang.
Nevada Prison System Under Scrutiny
Following the Ely State Prison riot, the NDOC relocated nearly 2,000 inmates and designated High Desert State Prison as the new maximum-security facility.
Prison conditions in Nevada and across the United States have come under increasing criticism. Reports of violence, abuse, and overcrowding have sparked federal investigations into prison misconduct and corruption.
