Trump Rescues Crypto Bill After House GOP Blockade

Trump crypto legislation: Former President Donald Trump says he’s struck a deal with House Republicans to revive stalled crypto legislation after 12 GOP rebels blocked a key vote.

On Tuesday evening, Trump posted on Truth Social that he had met with 11 of the 12 dissenting Republicans, all of whom agreed to support the measure when it returns for a vote.

“After a short discussion, they have all agreed to vote tomorrow morning in favor of the Rule,” Trump wrote. “Speaker Mike Johnson was at the meeting via telephone.”

 What’s in the Crypto Package?

The crypto legislation includes three major proposals:

  • GENIUS Act – Establishes regulatory clarity for digital assets.
  • CLARITY Act – Aims to define key terms in crypto compliance.
  • Anti-CBDC Surveillance Act – Bans the creation of a government-controlled Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).

Some conservative Republicans had pushed back, wanting these measures combined into one comprehensive bill and demanding stronger language banning any backdoor to a CBDC.

 The Rebellion in Context

Twelve Republicans joined Democrats in voting 196-223 against advancing the package earlier on Tuesday—an unusual break from Trump’s influence. Dissenters included Marjorie Taylor Greene, Anna Paulina Luna, and Chip Roy.

Greene, vocal in her opposition, posted:

“I just voted NO on the Rule for the GENIUS Act because it does not include a ban on CBDC… Americans do not want a government-controlled Central Bank Digital Currency.”

🇺🇸 Trump’s Crypto Pivot

Once a crypto skeptic, Trump has fully embraced the digital asset space:

  • Launched a $TRUMP meme coin
  • Involved in bitcoin mining and stablecoin firms
  • Issued an executive order banning CBDC on January 23

He claims the U.S. is “lightyears ahead” in the industry thanks to his leadership:

“Digital Assets are the FUTURE, and we are leading by a lot!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

What Happens Next?

Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed the deal and praised Trump’s intervention, saying the GENIUS Act vote will proceed Wednesday morning. He emphasized continued collaboration with Senate partners to finalize crypto policy.
